The idea that cartoons can make kids lean to being gay is ridiculous. Teenagers and adults see that Spongebob Squarepants shows some gay moments. But a kid who is five doesn’t see that they simply see a show that makes them laugh and keeps them entertained during the day or when their parents simply need a break from taking care of them. The idea that the color purple is related to gay being is also crazy because kids just see a color nothing more nothing less. The question about reality television is interesting because i think most people watch reality tv. Reality television is almost just there for entertainment.

Colors of planets or stars or cosmos? Are the colors that we think these things are real or do we just think they are real? I believe that we can think whatever we want about the colors of the planets untill someone shows real pictures of the planets. I also think that it doesnt really matter because it’s the shape, the name of the planet, and key information about the planet is the most important thing. At the same time maybe it is good to know the color of the planet. Also changing the color of a planet to get “media” attention is wrong because the people who really care about the planets and stuff want to see the real planets. The next question is about art is it fake or reality. My personal opinion is that it depends on the artist and what we know of the painting. For instance paintings of nature or even photographs. Like Ansel Adams he took the most breathtaking pictures of Yosemite that we have ever seen. That is definitely real. The thing about television is sometimes when we cry or laugh it may remind us of something that has happened to us. And maybe that television is so good that it makes us feel that we are watching real life. Technology of film does it change the way we see life? I think technology helps us better understand the world we live in and makes it easier for us to live. For instance right now is registration here at Stanislaus. With the use of technology registration is easier because we can go online and pick the classes we want to take.

I believe that advertisements are helpful for people to see what is going on in the world. Athlough the picture from Iwo Jima was staged it still got the message across to be who we’re in America. It showed that America had done it and that America could do something. This picture will forever remind the people of America what happened in World War 2. I believe that patriotic art does show appreciation for the values and rituals of America life. Images are show us who we are. A simple picture of you and your best friend can show that there is a real friendship there. It can show the bond that the two best friends show and it can remind you of who was your friend and who still is.

Video games I believe do have a huge impact on how people act in real life. My little brother is 15 and has played different types of video games since he was 8 or 9. I would have to say that there are positives and negatives to how video games have affected him. A positive is that it helps with your eye-hand coordination and a negative would be that he is addicted to playing them and some times that is all he does. The idea of violence with video games has to do with what the parents allow the child to play. For instance my brother played video games but my parents had rules on what kind of games he could play. I think that video games are not bad as long as there is some control with what kind of games kids play at certain ages. If the parents do not want their kid to end up being violent in the future than they should try to watch what type of games their kids play. The idea that people take famous things that people will recognize and change the meaning of it is simply them trying to get people to remember these famous things. Giving the audience something to relate to in a way. The brand names help businesses sell their product. For instance if someone was trying to buy shoes and they compared a pair of Nike to an off brand, the person is more likely to buy the brand name than the off brand because they recognize it not because it is a better shoe.

My opinion on the use of symbols. Hmm…. I personally think that symbols are good and that they help people decide if they want to buy something or not. For instance a person trying to decide between a brand like Nike and a not so known band the person will most likely pick Nike because they know the brand and they recgonize it. I understand why Nike and Pepsi make more money. That is because people can relate to them and they see the logo or symbol and they know what it is. My opinion on camaras and technology. Hmm….. I think that the camaras are good and bad. Yes in some ways they are taking away privacy but on the same hand they are protecting us. For instance the camaras that are on streets are helpful because they tend to catch reasons for accidents and people doing bad things. On the same hand the camaras that take pictures of the license plates if you go through a red light I personally find them annoying and when I go through a light that has one I get nervous and I either slow down or stop and thats not safe. Technology is great because we can do a lot of stuff now that we couldnt 20 or 30 years ago.

The biggest part of this text that has to do with me personally is the part about the tatoo. The article talks about how people get tattoos out of defiance I dont think is true for everybody. My older sister got a tatoo as a present for my parents for Christmas. It is a tatoo of a certain bird that my mom loves and maple leaves that are my dads favorite kind of tree. In this case the tatoo is symbolic and has meaning. I am pretty sure that a lot of people around the world have a reason for getting a tatoo and some may just get one because they feel like it. But I do not think that it is out of defiance of the world. The article that talks about the photographs I agree with. I think that photographs do show who a person is. Photographs also remind us what has happened in the past and it keeps our memories for a lifetime. I think the new system to determine if someone is the criminal is the right way to go. I think it is a lot faster and people can really see if one of the criminals is the one that affected her life. For the most part my ideas of the world remained the same. I disagreed with the first article but the other two articles i agree with for the most part.

The World of the Image by Trudy Smoke and Alan Robbins talks about how the world we live in is way too consumed with being beautiful. The text has to do with me because I am guilty of trying to be beautiful to get attention from a guy I may like or just because I feel like I have to. Just today I was talking to one of my roommates saying that i looked like crap because thats what I saw in the mirror. Also we think we know what guys look for in a girl but in reality we really do not. Articles like Equation for Beauty Emerges in Studies by Daniel Golemen, that talk about studies show that guys see “signs of beauty in a woman are cues that she is young and healthy- thus at the peak of her reproductive ability…” (Golemen,43) makes it hard for women who do not think they are attractive to think that they have any hope in finding a mate. Stuff like this is why girls lead to eating disorders and why it takes girls forever to get ready. I mostly agree with this text although my view of this is also that it is wrong because too many people get hurt because they are not attractive enough for someone they may like or even love. In the article Never Just Pictures by Susan Bordo, talks about models and actress’ that a lot of people admire and look up simply because they are what the world calls “beautiful”. Zoe Fleishauer claims that “the more skinny and F_______ you look, the more everyone thinks you’re fabulous.” (Bordo, 52). The way I think about the world was definitely confirmed in this texts because I agree with what the authors are saying.

Today’s reading came from The World of the Image by Trudy Smoke and Alan Robbins. The assignment was to read the first chapter and that write a blog about the reading. The authors explain how people see what they want to see and sometimes something that is not even there. The text relates to my life because sometimes I do not always see what is really there. I want to see what I want and not whats really there. I want to see the good things in life and not the bad even though the bad is there and will always be there. Also how the eye works I think that I can see that is good but I do not want to know how my eye actually works. Also I want to see life has good because that is how I am inside and that is how I want my world to look. I think it hits what I think right on the dot because I do take seeing for granted. (Grady, 2). The exersises to help with someones vision is something that most people would take for granted but in reality it could really help someone with their vision. (Curtiss, 6) I think it relates to what is right and wrong because we visualize what we consider to be right and wrong. I believe that card games like Solitare helps someone get better with using their scanning vision. (Curtiss,6). “Think about how your eyes have played tricks on you.” (Curtiss, 10) I believe that our eyes do sometimes play tricks on us because sometimes we see things that are not really there. I think that this text made me realize that we do only see what we want to see and if it is bad we shun away from it because we do not want to get hurt or disappointed.
